Human Relations Enrichment
Featuring Workshops Presented by
La Leche League of Washington's
HRE Department
Welcome to the HRE page. Here you will find a list of the workshops currently scheduled by the HRE department. We hope this will make it easier for Leaders and others affiliated with League to attend and benefit from a variety of HRE sessions.
What Is Human Relations Enrichment?
HRE is a systematic presentation of communication skills. The fundamental principles are genuineness,
respect for the individual, and empathy. La Leche League’s HUMAN RELATIONS WORKBOOK is an
introduction to the program and is recommended reading but is not required. Sessions are led by trained
HRE Instructors (HREIs). The emphasis is on “doing” instead of “talking about” doing.
Sessions 1 & 2
You will learn about, practice, and enhance these skills:
- increase your awareness of nonverbal communication
- identifying feelings
- focusing on the reasons for the feelings
- using variations in style
- concluding conversations
- asking and answering questions
- recognizing when the other person is ready to receive information
- giving information
Session 3
This session is centered around:
- saying “no” without losing rapport
- problem solving
- resolving differences empathetically
- practicing skills
(Sessions 1 & 2 are prerequisites for session 3.)
Additional Information
